Zoning: The origin of the Zoning idea in Apa/Agatu Constituency by HON AKOR NAS-PETER
The concept of zoning was originally introduced by the elders of the then-ruling party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), who viewed it as a strategic mechanism to sideline underperforming political officeholders or those who had fallen out of favor with influential power brokers—particularly their political godfathers.
One notable example of this manipulation was Hon. Sam Obande from Ado, who was effectively replaced by a more “favorable” candidate from Okpokwu with elite connections.
The candidate in question, Rt. Hon. David Idoko, was the younger brother of Captain Idoko—private pilot to General Ibrahim Babangida—and also the in-law of Chief Andrew Agon, former Managing Director of Nigerian Airways. Chief Agon, a major political figure in Benue State and an influential voice in Enone politics, utilized his connections and influence to orchestrate the removal of Hon. Obande. Among the numerous candidates, Agbese distinguished himself with a compelling and visionary manifesto that resonated deeply with the electorate. He was resoundingly elected, and for the first time, the Enone Federal Constituency had chosen a young, dynamic, and highly prepared representative with the capacity for impactful national engagement.
Since assuming office, Hon. Agbese has not only met expectations but has far exceeded the performance benchmarks of his predecessors—partic
