A shameful Party at Crossroads: PDP’s North Central Congress Highlights Deepening Crisis

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) recently held its North Central Congress to elect new executive members. However, the turnout painted a troubling picture for the once-dominant political force in the region.

Notable attendees included:

1. Senator Dr. Bukola Saraki

2. Governor Caleb Mutfwang

3. Senator Patrick Abba Moro

Other attendees:

1. Mr. Samuel Ortom

2. Approximately 500 media urchins and supporters from Benue State

Conspicuously absent were many of the party’s former heavyweights—no former governors, senators, ministers, or military administrators affiliated with the PDP showed up.

The candidate reportedly being promoted for the position of National Chairman didn’t even attend the event, despite being supported by the large media delegation from Benue.

This lack of participation from key stakeholders is a stark reminder of the party’s ongoing internal struggles and disconnect from its founding pillars.

Where are the party’s influential voices?

From Benue: Sen. David Mark, Sen. Gabriel Suswam, Sen. Orker Jev, Sen. Iyorchia Ayu and others.

From Niger: Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, Sen. Zainab Kure, Isah Kantigi, Muhammad Kolo and many others.

From Abuja: Sen. Philip Aduda, Hon. Micah Jiba, Hon. Hassan Usman Sokodabo and others.

From Kogi: Sen. Natasha Akpoti, Sen. Dino Melaye, Hon. Ibrahim Idris, Sen. Sunday Awoniyi and others.

From Nasarawa: David Ombugadu, Hon. Adamu Bako Ninga, and many others.

From Kwara: Alhaji Abdultatah Ahmed, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, Abubakar kanike and many others.

The strength of a political party lies in its collective leadership. No individual can claim sole ownership of a platform meant to represent a broad coalition of interests and classes. PDP must urgently learn to rebuild trust, embrace inclusivity, and reintegrate its experienced leaders—or risk further extinct.
