The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) North Central Congress, held at the weekend in Jos, has highlighted the deepening crisis within the party, as many prominent members failed to attend.
According to sources, the congress, which aimed to elect new executive members, recorded a low turnout, with only a few notable figures in attendance, including Senator Dr. Bukola Saraki, Governor Caleb Mutfwang, and Senator Patrick Abba Moro.
The absence of former governors, senators, ministers, and military administrators affiliated with the PDP was conspicuous, sparking concerns about the party’s internal struggles and disconnect from its founding pillars.
The PDP’s North Central zone comprises Benue, Niger, Abuja, Kogi, Nasarawa, and Kwara states, and the party’s weakness in this region could have significant implications for its national prospects.
Analysts say the PDP must urgently address its internal crisis, rebuild trust, and reintegrate its experienced leaders to avoid further decline.
The party’s national leadership has yet to comment on the outcome of the congress and the implications for the party’s future.
