Benue Activist Calls for Action on Insecurity as Ojotu Ojema Prepares for Parliamentary Session.

In a recent media chat, Honourable Ojotu Ojema addressed the pressing issue of insecurity that continues to affect numerous communities in Benue State. His remarks have sparked a call to action from local social activist, Comrade Paul Edoh Jr., who challenged Ojema to bring these important discussions to the forefront in parliament.

Edoh praised Ojema for showcasing a profound understanding of the various challenges that his constituents face in an increasingly insecure environment. However, he emphasized the need for Ojema to capitalize on this momentum as the parliamentary session approaches this Tuesday, just before the upcoming Sallah recess.

“The time is ripe for Honourable Ojema to elevate these discussions among his colleagues,” Edoh stated. “Parliamentary advocacy plays a crucial role in ensuring that issues of security remain a priority on our legislative agenda.”

The urgency of this issue was underscored by a recent tragedy in Edikwu, where the Olijamu and Oladoga communities were brutally attacked on the evening of May 5, 2025. This incident highlights the immediate necessity for more comprehensive strategies to combat rising insecurity in the constituency. Such events not only disrupt the lives of those directly affected but instill a pervasive sense of fear within the broader community.

Edoh urged Ojema to utilize his platform to advocate not only for the people of Edikwu but also for the broader concerns impacting the two local governments. Effective legislative support and resource allocation are vital for addressing these challenges, and it’s within the halls of parliament that transformative solutions can be championed.

Moreover, Edoh pointed out that Ojema’s efforts could serve to unite voices across political lines, fostering collective action to find solutions in a country where safety is a fundamental right. “It is our leaders’ responsibility to ensure that the voices of those suffering the consequences of insecurity are heard and represented,” he stressed.

As the Sallah recess approaches, the onus is on Honourable Ojema to advocate vigorously for his constituents’ safety and security. By doing so, he can embark on a journey towards implementing policies that foster a safer environment for the residents of Edikwu and beyond.
