Benue Police Relocate Commander, Deploy Tactical Teams After Deadly Attacks in Apa, Naka
Makurdi, Nigeria – June 3, 2025
In response to renewed violence in parts of Benue State, the Commissioner of Police, CP Emenari Ifeanyi, has taken decisive action following deadly attacks in Apa and Naka communities that left at least 22 people dead and several others injured.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, the attacks, which occurred on June 1, 2025, claimed ten lives in Apa Local Government Area and twelve in Gwer-West, with five individuals currently hospitalized.
The Benue State Police Command has since intensified security operations in the affected areas. CP Ifeanyi has relocated the Area Commander to Apa for closer supervision and direct engagement with the crisis, while tactical teams have been ordered to take over security operations in Naka.
“In the last one month, our personnel have been actively engaged with these attackers and have suppressed them in many locations,” the statement reads. “Unfortunately, these drowning bandits searched for vulnerable persons and attacked, killing innocent residents.”
The Commissioner assured residents of the command’s commitment to restoring peace and order. He has directed the immediate deployment of additional officers to secure all entry and exit points to identified flashpoints and to arrest perpetrators of the attacks.
CP Ifeanyi also expressed his condolences to the families and communities of the victims, pledging that the command would not relent until justice is served and the attackers are brought under the rule of law.
The command urges residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies as efforts to stabilize the region continue.
