PETITION FOR THE RECALL OF HON. GODWIN ABU EDO by Integrity group, Apa/Agatu Zone

*PETITION FOR THE RECALL OF HON. GODWIN ABU EDO by Integrity group, Apa/Agatu Zone

To His Excellency, Dr Hyacinth Alia, the Governor of Benue State.

cc: To Independent National Electoral commission.

The Constituents of Agatu Local Government Area,

We, the undersigned constituents of Agatu Local Government Area, Benue State, hereby petition for the recall of Hon. Godwin Abu Edo, the representative of Agatu Constituency in the Benue State House of Assembly. This petition is based on his consistent Abysmal performance and failure to perform his duties as a lawmaker over the past six years.
This is not an emotional thing or sentiment against the Honourable.

recall election (also called a recall referendum, recall petition or representative recall) is a procedure by which voters can remove an elected official from office through a referendum before that official’s term of office has ended.
Recalls appear in the constitutional democracy.
Electoral Knowledge Network as the most rarely used form of direct democracy.
We most educate our people on their rights.

Election recall is a crucial mechanism that allows voters to hold elected officials accountable for their actions and policies. It enables citizens to remove underperforming or unresponsive officials from office before the end of their term, promoting good governance and accountability.
Dont take it personal with me ok.

*GROUNDS FOR RECALL*

1. *Failure to Represent Constituents’ Interests*:Hon. Godwin Abu Edo has consistently failed to represent the interests of his constituents in the House of Assembly. He has not been accessible to the people, and his absence from key plenary sessions has hindered the progress of our constituency. The only bill he successfully introduced in his comfort zone not even in the Assembly complex was the Zoning of Federal house of representatives agitating for his colleague Hon Abu Umoro from APA. That was not the reason we voted him.

2. *Lack of Legislative Initiatives*: Despite being a member of the House of Assembly for six years, Hon. Abu Edo has not sponsored any meaningful bill or motion that benefits the Agatu constituency or addresses the pressing issues affecting our people. Rather he is doing the the job of zoning for his small Oga or friend (Abu Umoro). Today, the zoning is his slogans on daily. That is not his primary assignment to his people.

3. *Neglect of Constituency Projects*: There has been a noticeable lack of development projects initiated or facilitated by Hon. Abu Edo in Agatu Local Government Area. The absence of tangible projects has left our constituency lagging behind others in terms of infrastructure and economic development. The only thing he is championing is to distract our performing house of representatives, Hon pastor Ojotu Ojema on zoning instead of competency.

4. *Poor Communication and Engagement*: Hon. Abu Edo has failed to maintain regular communication with his constituents. He rarely visits the constituency, and when he does, it is often without any meaningful engagement with the people or addressing their concerns. He turn the communication to zoning slogans for his friends Abu Umoro.

5. *Disconnection from Constituents’ Needs*: The lawmaker has shown a clear disconnection from the needs and aspirations of the people he is supposed to represent. His actions (or lack thereof) indicate a lack of commitment to serving the constituency. The people Honourable, pastor Ojotu Ojema is doing both APA/Agatu job and that of Abu Edo.

*CONSEQUENCES OF NON-PERFORMANCE*

The non-performance of Hon. Godwin Abu Edo has led to:

– *Stagnation in Development*: Agatu Local Government Area has witnessed little to no development under his tenure, with critical infrastructure and social projects neglected.
– *Loss of Trust*: The constituents have lost trust in Hon. Abu Edo’s ability to represent their interests and advocate for their needs.
– *Disillusionment*: The people of Agatu are disillusioned with the political process and feel that their voices are not being heard in the State House of Assembly.

*DEMAND FOR RECALL*

In light of the above, we, the constituents of Agatu Local Government Area, demand the recall of Hon. Godwin Abu Edo from the Benue State House of Assembly. We believe that his inability to perform his duties as a lawmaker warrants his removal from office.

*EXAMPLES OF NOTABLE RECALL ELECTIONS*

– *United States* Notable recall elections include the 2003 California gubernatorial recall election, where Governor Gray Davis was removed from office, and the 1921 recall of North Dakota Governor Lynn Frazier.

– *Peru* Peru has one of the most intensive uses of recall mechanisms, with over 5,000 recall referendums activated against elected officials between 1997 and 2013.

– *Taiwan* In 2020, Mayor of Kaohsiung Han Kuo-yu became the first mayor to be recalled in Taiwan’s history.
We are here to repeat the same history in Agatu state constituency Of Benue State.

*NEXT STEPS*

We respectfully request that the necessary authorities take immediate action to initiate the recall process in accordance with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) and other relevant laws.
We are collating the signatures of 5,000 voters to actualise the future for our people.

*SIGNED*

[Prince Tony]

The Secretary of Integrity group.
APA/AGATU Zone.
