The Member Representing Apa/Agatu Federal Constituency and Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Chief Hon. Pst. Ojotu Ojema, has charged students to embrace education, skill acquisition, and rational thinking as tools for becoming leaders of tomorrow.
Ojema, who spoke virtually on the 13th of September at the Cultural Day celebration of the National Association of Apa Students, Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University chapter, said leadership does not begin in the future but starts with the actions of young people today.
“The leaders of tomorrow are the leaders of today. That tomorrow begins now, and the choices you make today will shape your destiny,” Ojema told the gathering.
He advised the students to avoid sentiments and divisive tendencies, stressing that the essence of education is to nurture rational thinkers and problem solvers. He further reminded them that Apa and Agatu people are one and must remain united.
In a gesture that drew loud ovation from the crowd, the lawmaker announced an automatic scholarship of ₦50,000 each for the students present, declaring them beneficiaries of the next phase of his educational support scheme.
Responding, the President of the National Association of Apa Students, Comrade Ochowechi Atabo, thanked Ojema for his consistent support, describing the gesture as a motivation for the students to pursue academic excellence.
Ojema, who has over the years initiated educational support programmes, skill empowerment initiatives, and infrastructural projects across Apa/Agatu, was represented at the occasion by his Media Assistant I, Comrade Ojila Yahaya Monday.
The students, visibly elated, celebrated the gesture, noting that the scholarship not only eases their financial burden but also strengthens their resolve to excel academically.
With this latest intervention, Ojema further cements his reputation as a leader who backs his words with action, investing in the human capital of his constituency while inspiring the next generation of leaders.
