PRESS RELEASE: AGATU LGA CHAIRMAN CONDEMNS VIOLENT ATTACK ON OLOGBA COMMUNITY

The Chairman of Agatu Local Government Council, Benue State, Hon. (Amb) James Melvin Ejeh, has condemned in strongest terms the violent attack on Ologba Community in Obagaji Council Ward, allegedly carried out by local criminal elements which resulted in the death of one Oche Peter and left two others, Mamuda Sale and Jaafaru Musa, with life-threatening injuries.
According to Hon. Ejeh, “The attack, which occurred on September 28, 2025, at about 11 pm, is a heinous act that will not be tolerated in our community. We have machinery in motion to fish out the perpetrators of this dastardly act, and they will face the full weight of the law.”
The chairman disclosed that security agencies, including the Police, Anyam Nyom, and Operation Whirl Stroke, were immediately mobilized to the community, and the situation was brought under control, averting further casualties.
“The corpse of the deceased was buried this morning after police and corona formalities, while the two injured victims are receiving emergency treatment at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital in Makurdi,” the Chairman said.
Hon. Ejeh further stated that intelligence operations have been launched to apprehend the fleeing suspects, and all security agencies have been mobilized to dominate the general area to prevent reprisal and counter-reprisal attacks.
On the long-standing conflict between the two communities, the Chairman noted that “due to the prolonged nature of this conflict, which started in 1972 over fish ponds and land boundaries, we are proposing a complete takeover of the disputed areas and conversion into a security formation and barracks. While we continue to engage, mediate, and deradicalize both communities and their allies for peaceful coexistence.”
Hon. Ejeh assured the community of his commitment to ensuring their safety and security and urged all residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies.
