*AGATU APPEALS FOR PEACE IN EGBA-OLOGBA CRISIS: “Let Us Lay Down Our Arms”*
In a heartfelt plea, Michael Obiabo has called on the Agatu people to embrace neutrality and calm in the face of the escalating EGBA and OLOGBA communal crisis. Addressing the viral reactions sweeping through the community, Obiabo emphasized the need for a peaceful resolution, urging residents to avoid taking sides and instead focus on unity.
“Good morning to you all in the house. Please, let us lay down our arms and calm our nerves,” Obiabo said, stressing that neither he nor anyone else is a judge in the matter. He dismissed the idea of taking the land from either community, saying, “It’s not the way to bring peace. Where is the brother spirit? Where is one Agatu? Where is the love?” He reminded everyone that Egba and Ologba are Agatu indigenes, deserving of coexistence.
Obiabo acknowledged the ongoing fact-finding process, cautioning that misinformation may have fueled the crisis. He highlighted Hon. Michael Inalegwu’s recent admission that both parties possess the same court judgment, questioning the implications. “Let us lay down criticism. We have suffered enough,” he said, referencing how the conflict has hindered development, including blocking a visit by US delegates and exacerbating displacement amid Fulini attacks.
“Let us shield our sword, allow neutrality,” Obiabo urged, calling for Egba and Ologba to come together in peace. “They have a sense of responsibility, but wrong information leads to disasters,” he noted, appealing for patience and unity as the truth unfolds.
