US LAUNCHES AIRSTRIKE AGAINST ISIS IN NIGERIA ON CHRISTMAS DAY*
The United States has launched a military strike against ISIS targets in northwest Nigeria, with President Donald Trump announcing the operation on Christmas Day. The strike, carried out in coordination with Nigerian authorities, targeted ISIS militants in Sokoto State, killing multiple terrorists.
Trump stated that the strike was in response to the group’s “vicious killing” of Christians in Nigeria, warning that more attacks would follow if the violence continues. The US Africa Command confirmed the strike, saying it was conducted at the request of Nigerian authorities.
Nigeria’s government has said armed groups target both Muslims and Christians, and US claims that Christians face persecution do not reflect the complex security situation. The country’s population is split between Muslims in the north and Christians in the south.
