*AGATU DEMANDS ACCOUNTABILITY FROM FORMER LEADER OVER ALLEGED FULANI AGREEMENT*
The people of Agatu are calling for accountability from former Local Government Chairman, Hon. Michael Umoru Inalegwu, over an alleged agreement with Fulani herdsmen to occupy Agatu land. The agreement, reportedly signed in 2017, has sparked outrage and raised concerns about the security of Agatu.
According to Comr Ochokwunu Daniel Edor, Convener of Agatu National Youth Council (ANYC), the alleged agreement has emboldened Fulani herdsmen to destroy lives and property in Agatu. Edor claims Inalegwu, along with other Agatu leaders, signed the agreement, which allows Fulani to access Adapati Island.
The ANYC is questioning the motivations behind the agreement and demanding explanations from Inalegwu. The group notes that current Chairman, Hon. James Melvin Ejeh, has taken steps to address insecurity in Agatu, including declaring the area a no-go zone for Fulani herdsmen.
The people of Agatu are urging Inalegwu to clarify his role in the alleged agreement and explain its implications for the community. The ANYC warns that silence on the issue will be seen as complicity and unacceptable.
