AGATU LOCAL GOVERNMENT REVOKED ADAPATI ISLAND LAND AGREEMENT OF 2017 SOLD BY EX-LEADERS, ORDERED HERDSMEN TO LEAVE AGATU
The Executive Chairman of Agatu Local Government Council, Hon. Melvin James Ejeh, has condemned the recent violent attacks by armed herdsmen in Agatu communities. In a press statement, Ejeh announced the revocation of the 2017 agreement granting herdsmen access to Adapati Island for grazing, citing that it was not carried out in good faith.
Ejeh has ordered all armed herders to vacate Agatu land immediately and called on the Federal Government to deploy reinforced military and police presence to stem the attacks. He commended the Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, for his efforts to restore peace and security in the state.
The council is taking steps to dismantle criminal networks operating in the area and has arrested suspects for investigation. Ejeh urged residents to remain calm and vigilant, and warned that no individual found aiding or abetting insecurity will be spared.
