*CHAIRMAN EJEH: STEERING AGATU TOWARDS PEACE AND STABILITY*
Hon. (Amb) James Melvin Ejeh’s leadership of Agatu Local Government Council is marked by purposeful governance, focusing on peace-building, security restoration, and community stability in a region long plagued by conflicts and displacement.
Upon taking office, Ejeh inherited decades-old security challenges, including over 14 displaced communities and thousands of IDPs. He adopted a coordinated approach, engaging stakeholders to restore peace and trust. Notable achievements include:
– Resolving the Opatani/Omagede land dispute through dialogue, enabling displaced persons to return home
– Convening a regional stakeholders’ meeting to combat cross-border crimes
– Establishing an Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) framework to address farmer-herder conflicts
– Providing motorcycles and logistical support to security agencies to enhance patrols and responsiveness
– Pursuing a security barrack between Ologba and Egba communities to ensure permanent security presence
Despite progress, public perception remains critical, with some residents skeptical about the administration’s achievements within a short period. Ejeh’s task now is to sustain engagement, transparency, and communication to consolidate peace and stability.
Many view Ejeh’s emergence as timely, offering renewed hope to Agatu. Sustaining gains will require consistent leadership, inclusive dialogue, and collective support.
