INTER STATE AND INTER REGION HUNTERS… WHAT THE LAW SAY..
Following the brutal killings of some Nigeria hunters in Uromi last week…
We should be asking ourselves some retrospective questions..
I have seen some Nigerians express surprised as a result of how hunters can travel from one part of Nigeria to another to hunt for animals..
Some said it’s legal others said it’s illegal…
Some don’t want anything relating to the hunters discussed…
but we must ask and answer some questions to clear some naive minds..
CAN HUNTERS MOVE FROM ONE REGION TO ANOTHER IN NIGERIA WITH THEIR FIREARM WITHOUT PROPER REGULATIONS…
The Answer is NO…
movement of Hunters accross regions in Nigeria is subject to legal restrictions…
This legal restrictions include
1. Firearm license from the Nigeria Police force, before carrying hunting weapons..
2. moving Firearm from one region to another require Police clearance and in some cases from State govt..
3. the hunters must have hunting permit issued by the state govt..
permit issued by one state can’t be used in another state..
4. some communities only allow you to hunt with the permission of the traditional ruler..
hunters can move from one region to another but can only do so with a permit and clearance from relevant authorities…
The question the Killed hunters should have answered is….
Where is their police clearance authorizing them to carry firearms…
where is their state permit authorizing them to hunt for bush meat in the River State they were coming from..
only this two questions should have proved if they were criminals or licensed hunters,… before the vigilantes set them free or handover them to police for prosecution…
No hunter have the immunity to carry firearms to hunt in the North or south of Nigeria without clearance…
