ATTITUDES YOU NEED TO STOP WHEN YOU ARE MARRIED OR IN A RELATIONSHIP:…*

*ATTITUDES YOU NEED TO STOP WHEN YOU ARE MARRIED OR IN A RELATIONSHIP:…*

When you are married or in a relationship, consider letting go of these attitudes:

1. Possessiveness: Trust and respect boundaries between you and your spouse.

2. Competition: Focus on teamwork and mutual support. No need for competitive spirit.

3. Criticism: Practice constructive feedback and empathy not destructive tendencies.

4. Comparison: Appreciate your unique relationship. Every relationship has its unique features you must study as a matter of importance to navigate the murky water therein.

5. Selfishness: Cultivate the habit of compromising some of your hard stance and show more understanding than creating misunderstanding.

6. Dishonesty: Foster transparency and open communication. Shun every form of dishonest act.

7. Pride: Embrace humility and willingness to apologize. You are not too big to say sorry even if the other person doesn’t feel the need to.

8. Unforgiveness: Practice forgiveness and letting go. Unforgiveness is like a burning coal that can burn even the standbys.

9. Lack of accountability: Take responsibility for actions. Don’t try to always be right. Show some level of responsibility and leadership.

10. Emotional unavailability: Prioritize emotional intimacy. It’s very crucial to see the need of your spouse and make effort to fill it than exploit it.

11. Disrespect: Treat each other with kindness and respect. It’s very nasty to disrespect whom you claimed to love.

12. Conditional love: Love unconditionally. True love is unconditional and must be practised with all sense of responsibility and trust.

13. Unrealistic expectations: Communicate and set realistic goals. Stop shoring up unrealistic expectations but ask God for mercies to live one day at a time.

14. Defensiveness: Listen actively and respond thoughtfully. See youeself as each other and you’ll learn to love and respect.

15. Passive-aggressiveness: Address issues directly. Avoid indirect throwing up of issues that can be settled without rancour.

16. Blame-shifting: Take ownership of mistakes. We are all prone to make mistakes. Just accept your humanity and move on.

17. Emotional manipulation: Communicate openly and honestly. Stop trying to manipulate each other no matter what. You are not a devil!

18. Control: Respect each other’s autonomy. See yourselves as one yet don’t forget you are two unique persons coming together to form a unique unit.

3. Resentment: Address issues before they escalate. No need prolonging or delaying issues. Handle it and let go.

4. Lack of gratitude: Cultivate appreciation. Oftentimes we take things for granted. Learn to show gratitude in situations.

Replacing these attitudes with positive ones can strengthen your marriage.

Positive attitudes to cultivate:

1. Empathy and understanding

2. Open communication

3. Mutual respect

4. Trust and loyalty

5. Compromise and flexibility

6. Forgiveness and letting go

7. Emotional intelligence

8. Teamwork and cooperation

9. Gratitude and appreciation

10. Unconditional love
