Africa Is Not Poor – It Is Poorly Led
By Chief Joe Daniels Umezulike
President, New Nigerian Mandate
I have refused to accept the lie that Africa is the poorest continent on earth. In truth, Africa is the richest continent, rich in natural resources, culture, human capital, and untapped potential. From gold, oil, and diamonds to vast lands and rare minerals, Africa holds the raw wealth that powers the modern world.
While other continents lead in technology and innovation, they rely heavily on Africa’s raw materials. They refine our resources and sell them back to us at high prices, because we lack the industrial infrastructure and leadership to process what we own.
What Africa lacks is not wealth, but intelligent, visionary leadership.
Since independence, most African leaders have failed to build good schools, hospitals, and a strong military. They still travel abroad for medical care and send their children overseas to study. They steal public funds and keep them in foreign banks, which then use those funds to trade and double their value.
Africa’s problem is not poverty of resources, but poverty of mentality and leadership. Until we rise to change that, we will remain rich in minerals but poor in progress.
Africa is not poor. Africa is poorly managed.
It’s time for an awakening.
