Activist Warns Against Political Manipulation Ahead of 2027 Elections in Nigeria

Makurdi- Benue State

In a bold declaration ahead of the 2027 Nigerian general elections, renowned Benue social rights activist Edoh Jr. has issued a stark warning about the potential for political manipulation in rural communities. He claims that politicians, such as Honourable Pastor Ojotu Ojema, with a history of not listening to constituents’ complaints and failing to take their suggestions seriously, may resort to financially coercing community endorsements. This tactic could profoundly influence local voters who might fail him at the end.

Edoh Jr. accused Ojema of shamefully purchasing support from past local government chairmen and Ex- community officials, alleging that he would also target student groups and religious leaders, turning places of worship into campaign platforms soon, contrary to their intended purposes. The activist expressed concern that even overnight politicians without impactful legacies from high and influential positions are also seeking to buy constituents’ because of stipends gotten from the Honourable Pastor, thereby undermining rotational issues on ground.

“I have faith that divine justice will prevail,” Edoh stated. “You cannot win the hearts of the people with money if you Don’t take their plight serious and your impact is not felt in their issues .”

He urged Pastor Ojema to reconsider his strategy, suggesting that he should invest his finances in more meaningful initiatives rather than attempting to buy loyalty through political appointments. Edoh emphasized that the very individuals Ojema is attempting to persuade may ultimately turn against him in the approaching election.

Highlighting the promise made by Pastor Ojema for a singular term of service, Edoh Jr remarked, “He may contest, but I don’t see him winning this election. Apa-Agatu needs a leader who listens, who acts on their words, and who genuinely fears God.”

In a passionate appeal shared via his Twitter handle, Edoh Jr. called on all youths in Apa to rise against the politics of marginalization. He insisted that this message should reach every family, cautioning the Agatu youths to be wary of trading their birthright for short term gains. He warned that allowing Ojema to claim victory in 2027 could entrench a powerhold ideology of Apa for two decades over Agatu that, this might bring untold political dycotomy in future.

As the political landscape continues to evolve in the lead up to the elections, the call for integrity and genuine leadership resonates deeply within the community, urging voters to prioritize impactful governance over financial inducement. The upcoming election is not just a political battle but a struggle for the soul of Apa, where the mandate of marginalization cannot be hand-twisted by any gullible individual amidst Ojema, his online supporters, and the greedy, padded local politicians working in tandem with those lacking integrity.
