A BRIEF PROFILE OF: HIS EXCELLENCY Phillips Omeiza SALAWU,

LLB, LB.
He was born in Ihima District of Okehi LGA of Kogi State, on the 29th of October, 1957.
An Astute Politician, the First National Director of Finance of the PDP, 1998 – 2002; a PDP Deputy Governor of Kogi State 2003 – 2012, a PDP BoT Member, 2013 – 2015; and from May 2025 todate, an Academic Star from GSS Okene, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, London School of Economics & Political Science, LSE; Emily Woolf College of Accountancy in High Holborn London, University of Jos, Baze University Abuja FCT, and the Nigerian Law School.
He made Division One with Distinction at his WASCE, made a First Class Distinction at his B.Sc. Accounting Degree Program and won all the prime academic prizes for the B.Sc; he led his PhD Class in the Course Work Program. He made Distinction Grades in Practice of Banking and Management of Financial Institutions’ papers in the Nigerian Chartered Institute of Banking Associateship Examinations. He took a second position, at first sitting, in the Nigerian Chartered Institute of StockBrokers’ final qualifying examinations.
He is a Fellow and an Associate of Nine different Professional Bodies Worldwide.
He is a Financial Technocrat, a Chartered Corporate Accountant, a Chartered Public Finance Accountant, a Chartered Banker, a Chartered StockBroker, a Chartered Tax Consultant, a Chartered Mediator & Conciliator, a Certified Forensic Accountant, Forensic Auditor; a Certified Fraud Investigator, Fraud Examiner; and a Lawyer (a Barrister & a Solicitor).
In the Private Sector, he was a Career Banker for twelve years in Merchant Banking at four different Merchant Banks, where he rose from the position of a Financial Analyst to that of a Deputy General Manger, DGM, in Corporate Banking and International Banking Operations. He also held an earlier portfolio as the head of the Capital Market Division of one of the Merchant Banks.
During his banking career, he was trained by the following International Banks in the core areas of banking operations:
Chase Manhattan Bank of New York, USA,
Citibank of New York, USA;
Australia-NewZealand Bank in London, UK.
He voluntarily resigned his appointment in the Merchant Banking Sector to establish his Private Business Outfit in 1996, the Omegah Business Conglomerate, with business interests in Hotels’ Development & Management; Real Estate, Agriculture, Education, Oil&Gas, Mining&Quary,
Training & Consultancy, Forensics and Allied Services.
In the Public-Governmental Sector, he was the First National Director of Finance for his Political Party, the PDP, between 1998 and 2002, at the Party’s National Secretariat in Abuja where he deployed his Intellectual, Technical, Professional,
Material, Institutional and Logistic Resources towards the solid foundation and the growth of his Party, the PDP. As a Chartered Accountant, he designed and implemented the Accounting System for the Party, the PDP. He also offered his professional advice for the successful Fund Raising Outings of the party during the Party’s crucial moments of financial scarcity.
He was later elected as a PDP Deputy Governor of Kogi State,
for Nine Years between 2003 and 2012 and had a peaceful relationship with his Political Boss, without any quarrel.
He was selected on merit to serve as a Member of the Board of Trustees, the BoT of the PDP between 2013 and 2015. He has also been re-absorbed into the Membership of the same PDP BoT as from May 2025 todate.
He was selected as a Delegate to the Nigerian National Conference of 2014, to represent the North Central GeoPolitical Zone.
At the said National Conference, he proposed the Alternation of the Nigerian Presidency between the Northern and the Southern Parts of the country with Dual Vice-Presidency to cover the unlikely Political Accidents, and for the simultaneous rotation of the Presidency amongst the six GeoPolitical zones for Unity, Peace, Prosperity, Stability and National Security of our great Country, Nigeria.
He also served as a Governing Council member for the University of Calabar between 2013 and 2017 and chaired the Council’s Audit Committee.
In all his Private and Public Sector Services, Dr. Phillips O Salawu had no blemish and was not associated with any known financial or moral scandals.
Barrister Phillips O Salawu is happily married to Her Excellency, Mrs Grace Itopa Omolola Salawu; and the marriage is blessed with Six children and Five Grand Children, for now, all to the glory of Almighty God.
