OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM IBBN NATIONAL ON THE BENUE MASSACRES
“When a nation fails to protect its people, it forfeits its moral right to govern them.”
The Initiative for Better and Brighter Nigeria (IBBN) National is heartbroken, outraged, and deeply burdened by the unrelenting violence that has once again struck the innocent people of Benue State, most recently in Yelewata village, Guma LGA, on the night of June 13, 2025.
What manner of silence is this in the face of such evil? Families were burnt alive in their homes. Over 200 Nigerians slaughtered, dozens missing, and countless wounded left without care or comfort. This is not just a tragedy — it is a failure of leadership, conscience, and responsibility.
We ask with heavy hearts: Where is the federal government? Where is the protection promised by the Constitution? If the current security architecture has collapsed, let the truth be told. Let the leaders be honest enough to say they need help rather than pretend all is well while our people perish.
This is not the time for political games or 2027 calculations. This is the time for urgent, decisive action.
IBBN calls on all Nigerians, especially the leaders of conscience, to speak out now. A nation that continues to look away while blood flows on its soil is a nation on the path of self-destruction.
We reaffirm: Self-defence is a constitutional right. The people of Benue — and indeed all endangered communities across Nigeria — must be supported to defend their lives, their families, and their heritage. No one should be made to choose between death and silence.
To the grieving families: We see you. We hear you. We mourn with you.
To our leaders: Enough is enough. Act now or step aside.
To the world: Nigeria is bleeding. Do not look away.
This is not who we were meant to be. And it must not become who we are.
Let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like a mighty stream.
