The Political Comedy of Dr. Abba Moro and Pastor Ojema: A Marriage of Miscalculation

In the world of politics, where intrigue and unexpected partnership often take center stage, the recent plan switch of Senator Dr Abba Moro from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) has certainly turned heads within Benue political circle. This move raises many questions about why a man, who once flourished in the party that helped launch his political journey, would suddenly leap into the APC, a party accused of playing a role in the PDP’s challenges. Is this a savvy tactic, or has he just sealed his political fate?

Moro’s political odyssey has been one of perseverance and grit. However, the fallout from his latest choice might spell trouble for his future endeavors. Critics are suggesting that this planned switch could mark the beginning of the end for the PDP in Benue state and by extension, Apa-Agatu and Igede and Oju where he rest his hope, especially as more former party members voice their displeasure over Moro’s planned departure. The anger from his former allies in the second PDP faction is tangible, with some even talking about settling the score for the chaos his actions during his stay before the party split have created.

On the other hand, the Governor’s response, his outright rejection of Moro’s return to the APC only complicates things further. This dismissal not only distances Moro from his old friends but also alienates potential supporters in his planned political arena.

It’s tough to see how Senator George Akume, who has been hesitant to offer influential positions to Idoma candidates within President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, rally the people of Benue Zone C, to vote Senator Moro. After all, how can Senator. Moro expect the backing of Apa and Agatu when this area saw little development during Moro’s time in office?

As we dig into Moro’s chances in the Apa and Agatu polling units, where he hasn’t delivered much in terms of substantive projects and youths empowerment, one has to wonder: what kind of backing can he realistically count on during the upcoming elections? His heavy reliance on Chief Hon. Pastor Ojotu Ojema, a fellow lawmaker in the green chamber and the same 10th Assembly, seems like a risky bet.

Ojema is also under fire for not living up to his promises to the elders of Apa, which raises doubts about his ability to deliver Senator Abba Moro effectively. Before the 2023 elections, he assured his constituents that he would complete the term of his predecessor, Honourable Samuel Odagbobyi Godday, and then pass the torch to someone from Apa. Now, his sudden shift to pursuing more power feels like a betrayal to many of his former supporters and sponsors.

The public disappointment with Ojema is pretty much expected; trust in him has quickly faded and left for benefited few within his circle. In his quest for political longevity, he could very well pull Moro down with him, especially if the voters feel deceived about their representation. The very foundation of the political future that Ojema and Moro are trying to build appears to be riddled with broken promises and shaky loyalty.

As we approach the 2027 elections, it’s uncertain whether this unusual partnership will have any strength in the face of rising dissatisfaction among the voters. Will Ojema and Moro’s combined efforts be enough to earn the trust of an electorate that has seen the fallout of unfulfilled promises? It’s becoming increasingly apparent that, unless changes are made, the political aspirations of both may be easily swept away in a tide of discontent
