The Commander of Operation Whirl Stroke, Major General Moses Gara, has reaffirmed his dedication to ensuring the safety and security of the residents of Agatu Local Government Area.
He made this known during his visit to the villages of Iwarri, London, and Ikpele in Agatu LGA on Thursday, August 7, 2025.
He was accompanied by a distinguished delegation that included senior military officers, police, Civil Defence Corps, DSS, and Navy personnel.
The delegation featured notable figures such as Lt. Colonel Agwon, Commanding Officer of the 72 Special Forces Battalion, and Lt. Col. S.O. Lawal, the Component Commander of the Nigeria Police Force, along with the Component Commander of the Nigerian Navy. They were warmly received by the Chairman of Agatu LGA, Hon. (Amb.) James Melvin Ejeh.
During the visit, Major General Gara initiated a comprehensive clearance operation in Agatu LGA, emphasising the strategic deployment of troops to boundary communities that are affected by renewed insecurity.
He issued a stern warning to criminal herdsmen operating in the region, urging them to leave and allow peace to prevail. Major General Gara underscored the operation’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and security of Agatu LGA.
“We will work tirelessly to prevent further attacks and bring those responsible to justice,” stated Major General Gara. “The peace that has returned to Agatu during this period serves as a model for peace in North Central Nigeria, and we will not allow criminal elements benefiting from the current situation to take Agatu back to the dark days of criminality. We will clear Agatu of all armed herders and bad elements immediately.”
In his remarks, Hon. Ejeh expressed his sincere gratitude to the security agencies for their relentless efforts in maintaining peace and security in the area. “We will continue to foster a strong collaborative relationship with them to ensure our communities remain safe and secure,” he stated.
Furthermore, he conveyed his deep appreciation to Governor Hyacinth I. Alia for his unwavering commitment to combating criminality in the state, highlighting that Agatu LGA has greatly benefited from His Excellency’s security initiatives to protect lives and property.
This visit follows a series of renewed attacks on some villages in Agatu LGA, which led to the displacement of residents. However, with the commitment of Operation Whirl Stroke and the support of the local government, residents can be assured of their safety.
