*ANAMBRA POLICE CHIEF REFRAMES IPOB AS AN IDEOLOGY, NOT A DEVIL*
The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has described the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) as “just an ideology” and emphasized that its members are not “devils” as often portrayed. Speaking at the 2025 Anambra Police Command Media Chat, Orutugu highlighted the command’s achievements in maintaining security during key events, including the Governorship election and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s visit.
Orutugu noted that despite IPOB’s activities, the police worked effectively to ensure safety, and some IPOB members have cooperated with authorities to address insecurity. He emphasized that the group is often misunderstood, stating, “There are people under IPOB who are working with the police and community to eradicate insecurity.”
The commissioner also lauded his team’s efforts, citing the successful hosting of President Tinubu as a notable achievement that will feature in his retirement portfolio.
The comments reflect a nuanced approach to addressing the complex dynamics of IPOB and security in the region.
