PRESS RELEASE: *NAIS National Nullifies Inauguration of New Officials Over Eligibility and Process Concerns*
Decision of the Executive Arm on the Purported Inauguration of Newly Elected Officials.
The Executive Arm of the National Association of Idoma Students (NAIS National) wishes to formally address the general public, stakeholders, and members of the association on the purported inauguration conducted today.
After careful review of the prevailing circumstances, consultations, and reports received, the Executive Arm has resolved that the said inauguration is null and void and therefore does not stand.
This decision is based on the following key considerations:
1. Eligibility Concern:
The Electoral Committee (ECOM) approved and accepted a candidate for the position of Senate President who is already a graduate. The position of Senate President, by the constitution and established practice of the association, is strictly reserved for a bonafide student.
It has been officially confirmed by the Chapter President of the Federal University of Lafia that Mr. Owuna Godwin, who purchased the nomination form and emerged as Senate President, is no longer a student, having already graduated.
2. Congressmen Discontent:
The Congressmen and a significant number of students have formally expressed their dissatisfaction and rejection of this development, emphasizing that a graduate should not preside over student affairs. This situation has generated tension and disagreement within the association.
3. Improper Handover Process:
The absence of members of the outgoing executive during the purported inauguration invalidates the process. A legitimate transfer of authority must be carried out by the outgoing executives to the newly elected officers. An executive body cannot assume office through self-inauguration.
In view of the above, the Executive Arm hereby:
Declares the purported inauguration void and of no effect.
Directs that all individuals earlier presented as inaugurated officials revert to the status of elected-elects.
Suspends all activities of NAIS National with immediate effect until further notice.
Commits to resolving this matter amicably and constitutionally in the interest of peace, unity, and the integrity of the association.
We urge all students to remain calm, law-abiding, and patient as stakeholders and the executive leadership work towards a just and transparent resolution.
Further updates will be communicated appropriately.
Signed:
Comrade Okoh Oche Emmanuel
President, National Association of Idoma Students (NAIS National)
