*MIDNIGHT EXODUS: RESIDENTS FLEE EDEJE AS AIYA CONVENER QUESTIONS “FULANI” NARRATIVE*
_Edeje, Agatu East – April 18, 2026_
Panic gripped Edeje community late Saturday night as residents fled their homes around 11:34pm, following reports of armed elements said to be “masquerading as Fulani” to carry out attacks in Agatu East.
Comr Ochokwunu Daniel Edor, Convener of the Agatu Indigenous Youth Association (AIYA), confirmed he was contacted at midnight by worried locals about the latest insecurity development. He described the situation as “so worrisome.”
Reacting to the reports of people fleeing Edeje, Edor challenged the recurring pattern of blaming external groups for what he insists are internal killings.
“When do we stop killing ourselves under the guise of one thing or the other with an excuse of attributing it to one thing or the other?” he asked. “We can’t continue like this. When we keep lying to ourselves about the source of our problem, we will never get the required solution. Call a spade a spade.”
Edor said he is holding off on a full statement until an official press release emerges on the Edeje incident. “I won’t say anything yet until I see press release on this matter.”
As of this morning, displaced residents are still taking shelter in neighboring communities. No casualties have been officially confirmed.
