*NPF Condemns Threats by Officer in Viral Video, Begins Disciplinary Action*
_Abuja, 21st May 2026_ – The Nigeria Police Force has condemned the conduct of ASP Newton Isokpehi after a viral video showed the officer making threatening remarks against members of the public filming police activities.
In a statement signed by Force Public Relations Officer DCP Anthony Okon Placid, the NPF described the officer’s utterances as “unacceptable, unprofessional, and inconsistent with the ethics, standards, and code of conduct of the Nigeria Police Force.” The Force said such behavior undermines ongoing reform efforts aimed at transparency, accountability, and citizen-focused policing.
Inspector-General of Police IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu has maintained that members of the public have the right to lawfully record police officers on duty, provided the recording does not obstruct operations, compromise safety, or interfere with lawful activities.
Following the video’s circulation, ASP Isokpehi was identified and summoned to the Anambra State Command Headquarters, where disciplinary procedures have commenced. The NPF said it does not tolerate threats, intimidation, abuse of office, or any conduct that erodes public trust.
The Force also reiterated that recording police activities is a legitimate tool for public accountability and should not attract harassment or intimidation from officers.
A formal statement detailing the outcome of the disciplinary measures will be released in due course. The NPF thanked members of the public for their engagement in promoting accountability and professionalism in policing.
