Benue Activist Criticizes Hon. Ojotu Ojema’s Media Engagement as Misplaced During Crucial National Assembly Sessions

In a recent statement, a prominent Benue activist, Comrade Paul Edoh Jr, has expressed concerns over Honourable Ojotu Ojema’s decision to appear in a TVC news media briefing during a significant plenary session of the National Assembly. The activist praised Ojema’s initiative to engage with the media but raised alarms about the timing of his appearance, which coincided with urgent discussions on pressing national issues.

The activist pointed out that while Ojema discussed the plight of those affected by violent conflicts involving suspected Fulani herdsmen in Akpete, he failed to address the disturbing incident of a constituent allegedly killed by Nigerian Army personnel. Criticizing the lawmaker’s absence from the assembly during critical debates, the activist highlighted the importance of his role in advocating for the safety and concerns of his constituents, especially regarding escalating insecurity and security forces’ conduct.

“What our constituents need is an active voice in official forums where impactful decisions are made,” said the activist. “Instead of being present during crucial parliamentary discussions, Hon. Ojema opted for a media appearance that many of his colleagues couldn’t follow due to urgent matters at hand.”

The Edoh Jr urged Ojema to consider rescheduling future media engagements for weekends when lawmakers are free to focus on constituency issues without conflicting legislative responsibilities, emphasizing the need for unity and active participation among representatives during these tumultuous times.

As the ongoing challenges in the constituency continue, constituents demand urgent attention, the activist looks forward to witnessing Ojema’s presence in the National Assembly, where he can effectively represent the pressing concerns of the Benue community.
