2027 Reps: Agatu Stakeholders supports Apa candidature, Call for Unity Behind Consensus Candidate for Upcoming Elections

In a unified appeal, key stakeholders from the Agatu local government have urged the Apa community to rally behind a consensus candidate for the upcoming Federal House of Representatives election in 2027, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and the representation of their collective interests.

In a recent statement directed to the “Apa Brethren,” Onuminya Innocent, an Agatu journalist in Sokoto, highlighted the necessity of a united front to ensure that the aspirations of the Apa community are effectively voiced. He noted that most stakeholders in Agatu agreed that it is time for an Apa representative to emerge and called for collective efforts to identify a candidate that resonates with all.

The message acknowledged the previous support shown by the Apa community for an Agatu candidate during the 2019 general elections, referring to it as an act of trust and goodwill: “We have not forgotten your remarkable gesture in 2019… That sacrifice was not just political, it was a statement of trust and goodwill.”

However, the statement also raised concerns about potential internal divisions or ambitions that could threaten the rotation principle both communities are striving to uphold. The stakeholders reminded the community that “unity is strength” and urged them to prioritize consensus in their candidate selection.

Onuminya Innocent echoed these sentiments in his report, emphasizing the need for all Agatu stakeholders and eligible voters to align with the call for unity.

Comrade Paul Edoh Jr., an Abuja based Apa journalist and activist, praised Agatu stakeholders for their support of this initiative, recognizing their sincere approach to the issues affecting the political landscape of Agatu.

Edoh Jr noted the risks of divisiveness, warning that any political ambitions of individuals like Honourable Ojema could lead to further fragmentation. He advised Ojema to heed wise counsel and reconsider his aspirations, suggesting that the community would not support self serving moves that threaten the collective goals of all.

Adding to the discourse, Barrister Ocholongwa John, a Lagos based lawyer, remarked that the decision of Agatu stakeholders is in the interest of all. He asserted that power rotation has always been a gentleman’s agreement and cautioned Honourable Ojotu Ojema against jeopardizing the collective interest for selfish reasons. He stated, “No sons of Agatu are willing to sacrifice their tomorrow over the interest of a few individuals. Any attempt to ridicule this great move might result in a backlash at the ballot.”

He further emphasized that those agitating and urging Ojema on social media lack a solid structure back home, advising him not to be swayed by their influence.

As the election approaches, the message from Agatu stakeholders remains clear: unity behind a consensus candidate is vital for the strength and representation of the Apa community’s interests.
