*How Rep. Ojotu Ojema Could Salvage the Security Situation in Apa/Agatu*
By Adams Abonu Abonu
Considering the rise in attacks by Fulani herdsmen on the innocent people of Apa/Agatu in recent times, it’s pertinent to point out the needfulness of the representative of the federal constituency to be more proactive in stemming the tides.
While Representative Ojema might have put some steps towards the direction of halting the attacks, a lot remains undone.
A concise action plan is suggested for the lawmaker below:
1. Continuous emphasis on the need for the federal government to take action on the floor of the Green Chambers. He should propose motions of urgent national importance in this regard.
2. Use Legislation Leverage as Chairman of the House Commitee on Inland Waterways. Since these attackers use waterways as means of access, a legislative innovation is encouraged to halt their movement.
3. Lead an on-the-spot fact-finding mission to the constituency, including relevant security agencies and community leaders to checkmate the attacks.
4. Mobilize State Assembly Members from Apa & Agatu to call on Benue Government to show more concerns on the plight of our people.
The good people of Apa/ Agatu deserves to live in peace and go about their livelihood without fear. A situation where majority of the communities are displaced and farmlands abandoned is unbecoming and every hand must be on deck to rein in the marauders.
May it be well with the people of Apa/Agatu!!!
