*AIYA Leader Calls for Focus on Security, Urges Agatu West Youth to Engage Their Local Traditional Rulers Over MOU*
_Agatu, Benue State – 21st May 2026_ – The Convener/National President of the Agatu Indigenous Youth Association (AIYA), Comr. Ochokwunu Daniel Edor, has called on Agatu West youth to prioritize the fight against insecurity and to direct MOU-related concerns to their local traditional rulers.
In a statement issued Wednesday, Edor said AIYA’s 18th May 2026 meeting with His Royal Majesty, Och’Idoma, was convened to discuss Agatu’s security challenges, including a request for Mobile Police deployment. He noted that while the MOU was mentioned, it was not the primary subject of the visit.
Edor criticized the use of the meeting to launch public insults at HRM, and pushed back against claims that AIYA’s engagement amounted to betrayal. He also addressed his removal from the Agatu Development Youth Forum WhatsApp group after questioning threats of litigation against AIYA.
*Engage Traditional Rulers First*
The AIYA leader urged Agatu West youth to meet with their district heads, clan heads, and 3rd class chiefs to seek clarity on the MOU. “They cannot claim ignorance after appending their signatures,” he said, adding that rulers should publicly address the matter rather than remain silent.
He questioned why Agatu West leaders had condemned the recent youth protest while saying they were unaware of it, yet have not spoken on the MOU.
*Call for Unity Amid Insecurity*
Edor warned that public attacks on the Och’Idoma undermine the institution Agatu fought to occupy, and called for unity so the community can focus on tackling insecurity.
He also appealed for the contact numbers of all Agatu West traditional rulers, stating he has questions that need public answers.
