Prof. Ladipo Akinkugbe & Mrs. Victoria Yakubu Gowon Encounter*!
I read a story about Mrs Gowon, she was a nursing science student at UCH. One day she fell sick, and it was exam period. She abandoned her treatment, left where she was admitted, and forced herself to write exams when the renowned Professor Akinkugbe (former VC of both UI and ABU) was informed! The Prof was angry, he sent for her and scolded her for taking such a risk “You silly young girl” go back for proper treatment, your health is more important, we’ll arrange for your exams later! The girl was very appreciative, she later got married to the Head of State, Yakubu Gowon!
One day as first lady, she was on an official visit to the same UCH, and all the management staff including Professor Akinkungbe lined up to welcome the first lady. As she was greeting them one by one on the line, she got to where Prof was standing.”Sir, do you remember me”? Yes, I do your Excellency! Prof responded “That’s your silly young girl,” the first lady said with excitement, She went down on her knees, just as she used to do when she was a student. ” Thank you so much sir” Prof also bowed in respect, ” Welcome your Excellency”
